Compress PDF

Reduce PDF file size without uploading the document to Any File Type. Choose light optimization to preserve text and structure, or stronger page re-rendering when size matters more.

Compress your PDF

Choose a file and compression mode. The result reports the real original and compressed size before download.

Balanced and Strong modes re-render pages as images. That can flatten selectable text, links, forms, layers and annotations.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Choose the PDF from your device.
  2. Select Preserve, Balanced or Strong compression.
  3. Run compression and check the actual before-and-after size.
  4. Download the smaller PDF when the tool produces a reduction.

Why can PDF compression flatten text?

Strong compression is most reliable when each page is rendered as an image and then recompressed. That can greatly reduce image-heavy or scanned PDFs, but selectable text, links, form fields and layers become part of the page image. Use Preserve mode when those interactive features matter.

Why might a PDF not get smaller?

Some PDFs are already efficiently compressed. Any File Type does not claim a reduction when the result is larger; it reports that clearly so you can keep the original or try another mode.

Common questions

Does PDF compression upload my document?

The compression workflow runs in the browser; the page does not require sending the PDF to Any File Type for processing.

Which compression mode should I use?

Use Preserve when selectable text, links and forms matter. Balanced or Strong can reduce size further by rendering pages as compressed images.

Why did my PDF not get smaller?

Some PDFs are already efficiently compressed. The tool reports when a new copy would not be smaller.
