How to crop PDF margins

Crop oversized white borders or unused page edges when the visible PDF page needs to be tighter.

Quick answer

Set the number of PDF points to trim from every edge.

The crop utility changes each page's visible crop box. It does not rasterize the document, and 72 PDF points equal one inch.

Trim PDF page edges

  1. Choose the PDF.Select the document with margins you want to reduce.
  2. Enter a crop amount.Start small; 18 points is one quarter of an inch.
  3. Crop the document. The same amount is removed from the visible area on all four edges.
  4. Check the result carefully.Make sure no text, signatures or page content were hidden by the crop.
Crop box vs deletion

Cropping changes the visible page area. Underlying objects outside the crop box may still exist in the PDF.

72 points = 1 inch

PDF page measurements use points, which helps estimate the amount to trim.

Common questions

Does cropping permanently delete hidden content?

Not necessarily. This tool changes the visible crop box rather than guaranteeing removal of underlying objects.

Can I crop different amounts from each side?

This utility currently applies one equal amount to all four edges.

Will cropping make the PDF file smaller?

It may not reduce file size much because hidden page objects can remain in the document.
